We’ve finished most of the shooting, now we’re working on post production stuff. This means sound and music for me. The music for this film has sort of a monastery sound to it, most of it sounds like it was done in a large church hall. It definitely has a Spanish sound to it with the mandatory guitar accents.

I’m also working on music for a short film that my good Canadian friend, Tommy, is making. A completely different style - and climate. One film is in the dead of summer in the desert, the other is in the dead of winter with snow galore. As far as music direction, all he told me was he wanted some catchy drum loops in it… little does he know…

Yesterday we began shooting our short. It involved some long treks through some desert landscapes while towing “Corky” ( in castellano “Corko”) the horse, actually it was the actress who had to do that. It involved some long treks through some desert landscapes while towing “Corky” ( in castellano “Corko”) the horse, actually it was the actress who had to do that. Rominá, the main actress, had to ride the horse in a couple scenes without a saddle. Needless to say, this is not extremely safe, she had two nasty falls but brushed them off like it was no big deal.

Meanwhile I was recording some sound effects, trying to avoid the rear end of the horse, donning a borrowed 80’s trucker hat, a necessary piece of sound equipment.

Today we’re going to do some more filming in the hot, hot, heat. Until next time.

Yesterday I started a correspondence course for Arranging & Orchestration. My first project will be re-arranging an existing piece of music. I think I’m going to arrange “My Funny Valentine” by Mr. Sinatra.

Meanwhile, we’re getting pretty close to shooting the short film that Maria and Tim wrote, “Anitgona”. We met the actress yesterday and will probably be meeting some more of the actors today. I don’t want to spoil it but I will say it will probably be pretty sad. But on a cheerful note, there will be a horse in it named “Corky”. Or at least there will be a horse.

I’ll have to find me a flamenco guitarists around here somewhere to help on the soundtrack.

Needless to say, there will be much maté consumed by the end of this.

Well, I have been without internet for several days, also our van didn’t work so I was pretty much stranded at the finca. They were harvesting the alfalfa to sell, we got 76 of these bales (in case you wanted to know). We’re going to sel… — Well, I have been without internet for several days, also our van didn’t work so I was pretty much stranded at the finca. They were harvesting the alfalfa to sell, we got 76 of these bales (in case you wanted to know). We’re going to sell them to horse farms in Buenos Aires.

So, since I have been hanging about, I decided to take some pictures of the bales at dusk.

I’m pretty happy to say I finally figured out a chorus for a song I’ve been working on for some time, it will probably be in the film we’re writing.

Tim and I also finished another draft of our movie script (life can be pretty productive without internet). Oh, and I have gotten a lot better at my made up bar-chords for guitar. I can almost play all of my songs on guitar now (just don’t look at my fingerings).

BTW, I’m heading back to Argentina tomorrow which I’m pretty excited about (not so much the two days I’ll spend plane-hopping as much as the actual destination, but no complaints).

This is a song called “All This to Say” by Sleeping At Last.

It seems to be a good song for winter flights. I met these guys this past fall, great guys, great musicians.

I shot this out the plane window flying to Santiago, Chile. I’m hoping to see these boys again pretty soon. Supposedly, Tim and Maria are working on a script for us to shoot which will, of course, need music. We shall see…

We made a trip to see some lakes. Starting off with Valle Grande we eventually made our way to Nihuil.
The road was a bit treacherous at times.

After the canyons, the landscape opened up a bit. The landscape went from windy canyons to wide-open fields. Then you see Nihuil, que hermoso!

It almost looks like a volcano on the other side.

“First Times”, recorded with a small handheld recorder.

We invited the Fratucello’s and the rest of their band Arkidia to our house to practice a song or two. After setting up all the gear and propping my keyboard up on a couple of travel containers we were ready to start practicing our first song … — We invited the Fratucello’s and the rest of their band Arkidia to our house to practice a song or two. After setting up all the gear and propping my keyboard up on a couple of travel containers we were ready to start practicing our first song - “First Times”.

It was pretty hard to explain to them the song and chords in Spanish (they use Do Re Mi instead of the letter or number system), but once we overcame that obstacle they were really fast learners.

The group consisted of: Pablo on drums, Bruno on bass, Sergio on guitar, Tim on uke, Me on keys.

Bruno also managed to cook an asado while we were practicing. He would keep playing his bass as he was poking the sausages on the parilla. By the way, I found out that Bruno’s family comes from Sicily i.e. mafia territory.

Maté was also being passed around the whole time, in good Argentine fashion.

We shot a live video of us performing “First Times”, hopefully it will be posted tomorrow, internet willing.

We saw this little guy on the side of the road and had to get a picture. These little Fiats are pretty common here. I think they only allow large men and bears to drive them though.
